About the Yellow-Brown Boxfish

The Yellow-brown boxfish (Ostracion cubicus) lives in the coral reefs of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its angular body, protected by bony plates, gives it the typical box-like shape of boxfish. Juveniles are bright yellow with black spots, while adults develop a yellow-brown base color with light spots. When threatened, the yellow-brown boxfish can secrete a toxic substance from its skin to deter predators.
