Vandenberg Project

The USS General Hoyt S. Vandenberg is a former warship that sailed the oceans as a missile observation ship for the U.S. Navy back in World War II and the Cold War. In 2009, the ship was finally sunk off the coast of Florida as an artificial reef. In the meantime, a unique ecosystem has developed on the old shipwreck and it has become a hotspot for divers who can marvel at the ship along the Florida Wreck Trail.
Andreas Franke photographed parts of the Vandenberg from different perspectives and created several collages by combining images of the wreck with photographed scenes from his studio in Vienna.
