About the Mandarin Fish

The Mandarin fish (Synchiropus splendidus) lives in the protected coral reefs of the western Pacific Ocean. Its vibrant shades of blue, orange, green, and turquoise make it one of the most colorful marine fish in existence. Unlike many other fish, mandarin fish do not have scales, but rather a protective layer of mucus on their skin. They feed primarily on small crustaceans and other tiny invertebrates, which they hunt among corals and rocks.
