About the Harlequin Sweetlips

The Harlequin sweetlips (Plectorhinchus chaetodonoides) lives in the coral reefs of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Juveniles differ significantly from adult fish: with their black-and-white markings and undulating swimming movements, they mimic poisonous flatworms, thereby protecting themselves from predators. Adults have a light-colored background pattern with numerous dark spots and strikingly thick lips, which give the species its name.
