About the King Parrotfish

The King Parrotfish (Scarus vetula) lives in the coral reefs of the western Atlantic and the Caribbean. With its vibrant coloring of blue, green, yellow, and pink hues, it is one of the most colorful parrotfish. Its strong, beak-like teeth enable it to scrape algae off corals and rocks. In doing so, it also breaks down dead coral, thereby contributing to the formation of the fine white sand found on tropical beaches as well as to the health of the coral reefs.
