About the Pufferfish

The Pufferfish (family Tetraodontidae) lives in tropical and subtropical oceans around the globe; many species inhabit coral reefs. When threatened, it can inflate its body significantly by taking in water or air, making itself appear much larger to predators. Many pufferfish also possess the highly toxic neurotoxin tetrodotoxin, which provides them with additional protection against predators. With their powerful, beak-like teeth, they crack open clams, snails, and crustaceans.
