About the Blacktip Reef Shark

The blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) inhabits shallow tropical coral reefs in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It gets its name from the distinctive black tips on its dorsal and caudal fins. It is a fast and agile hunter, but is considered rather shy around humans and plays an important role in the ecological balance of the reefs.
