About the White-spotted Filefish
The White-spotted Filefish (Cantherhines macrocerus) lives in tropical coral reefs and rocky coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Its dark base coloration, dotted with numerous light spots, provides excellent camouflage among corals and rocks. Like all filefish, it has a powerful dorsal spine that it can raise to defend itself against predators. It feeds primarily on algae, sponges, and small invertebrates.
