About the Indian Lionfish

The Indian Lionfish (Pterois miles) lives in the coral reefs of the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, and the western Pacific. Its striking red-and-white striped fins and long, fan-shaped fin rays make it one of the most beautiful reef fish. Its dorsal, anal, and pelvic fins bear venomous spines, which it uses to effectively defend itself against predators. As a patient ambush hunter, it feeds on small fish and crustaceans.
