About the Spectacled Penguin

The Spectacled Penguin (Spheniscus demersus) lives along the coasts of South Africa and Namibia and is the only penguin species native to Africa. It owes its name to the distinctive black markings on its face, which resemble glasses. African penguins live in colonies and care for their young together. Due to habitat loss and overfishing, the species is now considered critically endangered.
