About the Arabian Doctor Fish

The Arabian Doctor Fish (Acanthurus sohal) is found exclusively in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden and is one of the best-known surgeonfish in this region. Its striking pattern of black, white, and bright blue lines makes it instantly recognizable. Like all surgeonfish, it has sharp bony plates at the base of its tail that serve as a means of defense. It feeds primarily on algae and contributes to the health of coral reefs.
