About the Arrowtail Crab

The Arrowtail Crab (Limulus polyphemus) is one of the oldest groups of animals still living on Earth today. Its ancestors have existed for over 400 million years with virtually no change, which is why it is often referred to as a “living fossil.” Despite its name, the horseshoe crab is not a true crab, but is more closely related to spiders and scorpions. It lives in shallow coastal waters and feeds on worms, clams, and other small bottom-dwelling animals.
